Paper presentation at the 22nd International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM26) 2026 Conference
We are pleased to share that BlueBird technical lead Kyril Kaufmann recently represented our project at the 22nd International Conference on the European Energy Market (EEM26) at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

At the conference, Kyril presented the paper "The Cost-Emissions Trade-off Under Network Constraints" co-authored with Georgios (George) Tsaousoglou. As the power sector transitions toward decarbonization, regulatory policies must be designed to guide investments in renewable generation and demand-side flexibility effectively, in a way that truly and fairly leads to carbon reduction
This research, supported by the BlueBird project, shows that fair carbon accounting shouldn't be blind to the grid. The location of renewables, flexible consumers, and power-generating sources matters not only for the overall economic cost of the system but also for its carbon cost. Ignoring transmission constraints can produce misleading cost-emission curves, whereas network-aware modeling reveals crucial spatial asymmetries and saturation effects useful for efficient regulatory planning
We are glad to support this research as we continue our work on developing smart flexibility solutions.
